Warning, the unit I got was so old that it was not supported by TOM TOM. They could not believe that I had just bought a unit that was that old. They did say that they were sorry but that unit was way to far out of date. We had a main HWY opened about 10 years ago and it did not show up.

This device has been nothing but trouble - trouble downloading maps, trouble with the software to download maps and update the device, and trouble getting the device to run. I will never buy a TomTom device again.

At the time I bought the gps ( 2012 ) it was good and free map updates were available. Lately the TomTom seems to focus a lot on their profit and little on the value of their product since the "free lifetime updates" usually last for 36 months. Now I am not even able to buy a map, all I can do is to purchase a new device. And probably in 3 years from now it is going to be the same story. I will still keep the gps for the areas that do not have a network signal and when there is a network signal I will simply use waze and google maps which are free and much more precise. I understand that it is costly to totally support a gps with free maps for ever, but it is not good when I can not buy a new map and I am forced to buy a new device...for me it is not happening since other options are free and available.

I bought this thinking I wouldn't have to buy map updates. TomTom didn't think I'd need to buy updates either. In fact, they offered quarterly updates... until they didn't this year. Instead of offering simpler maps for the older devices they discontinued map support for them. Waze is my go-to for daily driving. No stupid update issues, no crappy software that crashes constantly, no finding out that my device is a paperweight. I was trying to revive my TomTom Start 55TM just in case I was traveling somewhere and having cell connectivity issues. Unfortunately, TomTom wants to commit highway robbery by forcing everyone to buy a new one. Very unhappy. I'd recommend you avoid TomTom and this model like the plague. They do not offer "Lifetime" maps....

Can't believe you can still buy this antique. I got it in 2013 with the promise of "LIFETIME FREE UPDATES". Well dummy Steve didn't get around to worry about that for a couple years and when I when to update I was informed that my unit was too old to accept the update software...or some lame excuse like that. The old data can get you in a ton of trouble these days. Tossed it and bought a Garmin.
