The Nikkor 55-200 f4-5.6 doesn't come with a lens shade. I always use a lens hood.

This hood does a much better job of protecting my lens from bumps that could damage the lens, or the UV filter I used to use for lens protection. I can also carry another lens in my messenger bag knowing any contact will be plastic-to-plastic. Meanwhile, if I need to mitigate a stray light problem the hood is already in place, and available. As with all lens hoods, make sure the lens cap is fully secured to the lens barrel rim when you're finished shooting, or changing lens.

This hood fits and locks in perfectly. It does the job and is reasonable in cost. In my opinion every lens should have one and it should always be used along with a UV filter. Typical nice Nikon fit and finish. Won't dent like the old days metal hoods. I would buy again if I needed to.
