I had hesitated for quite some time toward spending big bucks on this lens and was determined that if it did not live up to my high expectations in every way it was going right back. Fortunately, I am quite delighted with it. Its images are crisp and clean and it focuses in an instant. This lens is going to get a LOT of use from me!

The Nikon AF-S Nikkor 500 mm lens I just bought is fantastic. The lens is fast and a much higher percentage of my photos are of high quality compared to photos from my 80 x 400 lens. Although my setup with the 500 is a good bit heaver than with the 80 x 400, I am still able to hand hold the 500. I am very pleased with the lens and with B & H service.

I primarily use this wonderfully sharp lens with the D500, and more often than not I have the TC-14E III attached. I also use it with the D750 and D810A. Owned it for 17 months and continue to be amazed by its performance for nature and wildlife photography. I'm 51 years old, yet the lens is light enough that I can walk around and carry it on a strap w/ D500 and TC-14E III for a few hours. For longer hikes, I use a monopod or a ThinkTank backpack. Superb contrast, resolution, sharpness, and vivid colors are simply amazing. What's not to like? Well yeah...the price is steep. One of the photos I am providing with this review were shot with the TC-14E III. You'll notice how that combination produces sharp results.

Sharp, fast, solid build quality. Images are beautiful. Performs well in lower light. At 108 ounces, tripod recommended but can be hand held for a period of time. Highly recommend this lens. Delivery was on time.

Excellent sharpness, contrast, and colors. Which is to be expected from a lens of this caliber. What was not expected is the weight and balance. I'd read that it is very hand hold-able for a 500 prime, but you can't appreciate how good it really is until you pick it up and point it. The balance is excellent. It feels only slightly heavier than my 200-500. I hand-hold 99% of my shots so I am extremely pleased with this lens. When it comes to big primes and the cost required to own one, the question is always asked do you ever regret dropping that much cash on a lens? I never read a yes response to that question. And now I'll add my resounding NO !!!
