Very sharp lens and works well with 1.4 converter without hardly any perceptible drop in sharpness. very easy to use hand held with the Nikon Z8 . Birds in flight are possible but takes a bit of practise with the narrow field of view. Expensive but to me worth every penny !

Truly liberating! Spent many years using a heavy 600mm f4 with an equally heavy tripod. It made travel challenging and a bit of a chore. This 800mm changes the entire dynamic, not only will travel be much easier, but being able to move about with a super telephoto lens, and not be anchored to a tripod, will be indispensable in capturing wildlife. Have had it 2 weeks and the images are absolutely superb, love the sharpness and color rendering. A life altering lens.

I'm an avid bird photographer and have been a Nikon DSLR shooter for a long time (I currently own a D5 and D850). I finally got a Z9 and a FTZ II adapter in November 2023. I've been shooting with the 500mm f/5.6 PF lens, usually in DX mode and was quite pleased with the results. After reading many reviews, I decided to get the Z 800mm. What a game changer! This lens is the real deal. It's crisp, responsive and the reach is amazing, either in FX or DX modes.Note that the Z9 - 800mm combination is a little on the heavy side, so a monopod or a tripod for extended outings is a good idea. For shorter outings, it works perfectly well as a handheld.

My favourite prime wildlife lens. Super sharp, light, easy to carry and use handheld. Small enough it fits in a carry-on bag. Works well with TCs. Highly recommend.
