Transcend TS8XDVDS-K Externe DVD-brander

I have had a good experience using this as CD burner on Windows 10. Plug-and-play, no issues.

I have tried the generic DVD writers on my 2015 27" iMac, which claim to be compatible with the OS, but are not. This product worked perfectly out of the box, plug-n-play. I wish only that I had started with it.

I have been through 3 other "cheap and cheerful" units and each tome none of them worked with my Macbook Air. Get the Transcend unit and you will not look back. It's worth the extra cost and you won't be wasting your time. I can play CD's, download them, watch old DVD's, and write discs no issues. (NB: you will need your own adapter for the USB port to Type C for the newer Macbooks)
