De Leica SL3 biedt een indrukwekkende 60MP sensor, robuuste bouw en geavanceerde autofocus, waardoor het een topkeuze is voor professionele fotografen. De camera ondersteunt 8K video en is compatibel met verschillende Leica lenzen. Nadelen zijn de hoge prijs, beperkte batterijduur en het scherm dat alleen kantelbaar is. Ook is de burst-modus minder geschikt voor snelle actie. Dit maakt de SL3 vooral aantrekkelijk voor wie ultieme beeldkwaliteit en bouwkwaliteit zoekt, maar minder voor sport- of actiefotografie.

If you strip away the luxury of a Leica, the SL3 is far from the most appealing camera that I have used. Even if you do place a high value on owning a Leica, other cameras of theirs, like the M-series rangefinders, seem to make more pragmatic sense to me. The SL3 is impressive in some ways, but I wouldn’t recommend it to most photographers who are considering one.

Ideal for lowlight (Hi ISO)/high res imagery. Not really a sports/action camera but benefits from improved AF over SL2. Well made. Well balanced in hand. Suits Leica M lenses well. Useful range of other lens providers now is a relief. Battery power drain still high and dual charger should have been included in package (this apparently not provided due to a new EU directive but offered as an expensive extra? Appears disingenuous. Surely could have been avoided as timely charging fundamental to professional use particularly as the load on the batteries is high and serves only to leave a slightly bad taste.) Articulated rear screen particularly useful as are menu access/software/firmware improvements. Still, and despite some of the above, a very good photographic tool.

The SL3 is Leica's best full-frame mirrorless all-rounder so far. It combines incredible build quality, a refreshingly minimalist interface, and a 60MP sensor with phase-detect autofocus. The SL3 doesn't eclipse any of its rivals for pure performance, its battery life is disappointing and the in-body image stabilization is pretty weak – but the image quality is superb, as is the whole handling and shooting experience. Is this the best L-mount camera yet? Yes, and by a mile.
