Algemene informatie
Elektrische fietsen zijn in opkomst. De meeste modellen werken doormiddel van een combinatie van spierkracht en de elektrisch aangedreven motor. In Nederland noemen wij dit officieel een fiets met trapondersteuning. Vaak wordt dit bedoeld als men spreekt over een elektrische fiets. Een elektrische fiets met zelfstandige aandrijving wordt ook wel een ‘’E-bike’’ genoemd. Hierbij is het dus niet altijd nodig om zelf nog te trappen. Zoals de term doet vermoeden komt dit uit het Engels en is een afkorting van ‘’electronic bike’’.
De modellen met lage instap en de elektrisch aangedreven motor is ideaal voor oudere personen. Deze kunnen nu onverminderd blijven genieten van het fietsen. Ook voor jongere mensen is de elektrische fiets een goed alternatief. Lange tochten, hellingen of zware weersomstandigheden kunnen hiermee makkelijk worden overwonnen.
Elektrische fietsen worden steeds goedkoper. De techniek is in de afgelopen jaren verfijnd waardoor de elektrische motoren lichter, duurzamer en krachtiger zijn geworden.
Net zoals bij normale fietsen is er bij de elektrische fiets een diversiteit aan modellen. Zo is er een dames of heren model maar ook wordt de techniek steeds vaker toegepast op diverse fiets types als:
