Disney Dinosaur

This is a forgotten Disney animation film when Computer Generated Graphics were still a novelty. The movie is still good but I think the Ice Age franchise has done a much better job in telling stories. I bought this used on eBay and I had a problem with the sound. At 27 and 42 minutes the sound broke. It sounded like scratching; maybe my disc was dirty. Whatever the problem, it ruined the experience for me. There are a few special features but no trailers. There is a short music video of a nature film and the making of the amazing explosion effect. Add it to your collection if you are a true fan of everything Disney.

Along with Jurassic Park, it's incredible to believe that 'Dinosaur' also helped break new ground in terms of visual effects and blending practical environments. The film looks absolutely stunning for a movie that was released in 2000. The environments feel real, the sound design is fantastic and the musical score is beautifully done. While the film's story may not be the strongest, the characters that populate it are likeable enough and their motivations are clear, the voice cast it also pretty great. Another slight disadvantage is it's runtime, the film could have benefited from being a bit longer to help build a stronger story. Despite these two problems along with some minor inconsistencies, ultimately 'Dinosaur' still feels like a solidly made film in all other aspects.

A visually stunning film that is elevated by its enchanting score and story that can be enjoyed by all ages. It was a different kind of Disney movie that still stands up after all these years.

This movie was my first favorite dinosaur movie. Since then, I have been introduced to others that are just as thrilling. The animation is amazing, the emotional meaning is real, it's one of the many movies of Disney that I love!

Dinosaur is a mixed bag. There are some amazing moments in the film where the visuals and score combine to provide an amazing experience. At other times the film can be bogged down by some cheesy dialogue, generic characters, and some noticeably fake CGI along with the Dinosaurs and environment not meshing well. Kids will love this film, like I did, while adults may not. I’m alright with it primarily because of nostalgia and the excellent score. Not much hear for an older audience but the moments where the film shows and doesn’t tell make it watchable.
