When an earthquake hits the us west coast, an LA fire dept. helicopter pilot (Johnson) must save his estranged family.

When a CIA operation in London goes wrong, Bill Pope (Ryan Reynolds) is killed on the job. In order to extract crucial information and complete the job, the agency implants Pope’s memories into the brain of convicted felon Jericho Stewart (Kevin Costner) in an experimental procedure. But Jericho has other plans.

This is probably the best I've ever seen Costner act. He really puts his heart and soul into this movie and it shows. Don't understand the critics disdain for it? Sure it's ludicrous but entertainingly so. The action is brilliant, the violence is in your face without being gratuitous. The English locations work very well and there is oodles of Sci-Fi to keep us happy. Also the narrative is compelling. I'm over scoring this to counter the silliness of the critics..yet again...

This movie was way better than the critics are saying! I don't know what movie they are watching but it's definitely not the one I just watched. After the movie was over I literally jumped online to see if there was going to be a Criminal 2, that's how much I liked it. And that's when I saw that it didn't do so well in theaters and it's probably cause of these stupid critic's telling people not to go watch it. That's why I NEVER even look at the critics scores or what they are saying about a movie, cause they are all crap! The ONLY reason that I'm writing a review on this one is to get the ratings up, hoping that they do a sequel. I know that probably won't happen, but at least I tried. I think Kevin Costner was great in this film. He played that role perfectly, and he made me laugh several times. They should really make a Criminal 2.....

Criminal unfortunately joins the majority of films this year that have underwhelmed. There does seem to be some squandered potential here, and maybe if you can get past that ludicrous premise, you can find this an enjoyable little action thriller. The Blu-ray combo pack sports a high quality feature presentation plus substantial extras. It may warrant a rental for Costner fans and the interested.
