Tarzan is geboren in de jungle, maar heeft nu al jaren geleefd in de grote stad in Londen. Hij is daar inmiddels aardig aan gewend geraakt, maar wanneer hij hoort dat de dorpelingen in Afrika worden onderdrukt, besluit hij terug te gaan om hen te redden. The Legend of Tarzan is niet de eerste verfilming omtrent deze jungleheld en het zal ook zeker niet de laatste zijn. Wel voegt de film iets toe door het geheel in een modern jasje te steken en voldoende avontuur te bieden. Het emotionele hart ontbreekt echter, waardoor het uiteindelijk niet veel meer is dan een actievol niemendalletje. De BD-uitgave heeft prima beeld- en geluidskwaliteit. Daarnaast zijn er een handjevol extra’s beschikbaar.

The Legend of Tarzan is a more than known character, slightly turns him in a new angle for the viewer. They tell you loudly "SEE HOW DIFFERENT THIS TARZAN IS!!!!!" while forgetting about what made Tarzan so memorable, and then throw in a convoluted conflict to boot. The disc looks and sounds fantastic, and the extras are even good yet brief. But those things aren't enough for a film that's supposed to be fun and (presumably) respectful, but does neither.

The blu-ray comes with a great DTS-HD MA 5.0 track, but the image is very disappointing. It suffers from a lot of flickering from the begining to the end of the movie. Where are the extras from the 2-Disc release?

A greatly entertaining roller coaster of a film that combines 2D animation with 3D background to its best extent and dazzles us with thrilling scenes of Tarzan surfing through the jungle trees, while the classic story offers us a very nice message about acceptance and self-identity.
