Fox UK Miracle On 34th Street

Does Fox deserve a lump of coal in its stocking for gussying up the packaging of Miracle on 34th Street and at least suggesting this is something "new and improved" by slapping on a "70th Anniversary" marketing banner? I'll leave that each individual Santa Claus to decide, but I will say that a film as unique and beloved as Miracle on 34th Street could benefit from one of Fox's deservedly acclaimed restorations. This is a film with an enduring message and some wonderfully apt writing, with a story that's perhaps even more important for our jaded sensibilities than it was in the seemingly "happily ever after" days of a post World War II America. Technical merits are generally very good, but maybe Fox will give us all an unexpected Christmas present by going back to the (restoration) drawing board for any new release of the film. No need to double dip here, but for those who don't already own Miracle on 34th Street on Blu-ray, this release comes Recommended .

Miracle on 34th Street, the 1947 version is one of Christmas Cinematic Legend. Fast forward some 40+ years later and the '94 version may not be as beloved, but it still has its charm and important place in Christmas Cinema lore. The story is pretty much the same as a mysterious old man claims to be Santa Claus and he has no doubt of changing his mind. Enter the little girl who gets caught up in the magical moments and the adults who have trouble believing at first, only to change their minds as things unfold. Later on its up to the few adults to prove Kris Kringle's validity that he is real and the whole myth is as real as you want it to be. Fox's blu stumbles with a mediocre PQ & AQ presentation and no special features, but for the right price this one is a nice addition to your holiday collection.....

And it gets great treatment to bluray...My box mentions nothing about the colorized version being included which is fine with me. Personally I don't like "colorized" versions..I feel it takes away from the movie itself..( I love It's A Wonderful Life, but the colorized version just takes away the feel of the movie) which I think would have in this case too..PQ is extraordinary for a movie of this age and will be a joy to watch again this Christmas Season..Don't pass this one by

Watched this film for the first time tonight and thought it was great little Xmas film. It definitly gets you in the mood for Christmas. On the technical side, I found that the image was a little soft and the audio could of used some work. The music soundtrack through the film seem a bit higher than it should be and caused me to bring the sound down a few times during the film only to have to bring it back up because I couldn't hear the dialogue anymore. This is a movie only blu-ray, no features are included which is too bad. Since I've never seen this film on DVD I don't know how it compares hence I caution before double dipping unless you can find the blu-ray under 10$.

I've never heard about this movie before and when I saw the disc and review didn't expect much. A christmas movie that's 60 years old, you don't expect much. However it's probably the very best christmas movie ever (if don't count "It's a Wonderful Life" as one). It's very well directed and written, doesn't bore at any time, it have a soul that many 40s movies lack. And it seems fresh even now. Where else do you see Santa taking defense in the court? Video quality is sharp and clean. I'm not sure if they used any special technique like DNR. Anyway it looks WAY better than The Third Man, which received 5/5 on this website. Sound is alright. Though 5.1 track seemed absolutely mono to me. I was late to watch it, as Christmas passed already, but have a lot of fun anyway. Recommended.
