A good transfer both video & sound. Extras are good too.

Currently offered for $35 on Amazon with essentially the same transfer and bonus materials as MGM's Blu-ray, this package from Shout Select is way overpriced, although I like the inclusion of the uncompressed (original) DTS stereo mix. I'd wait for this drop to $20 and under. Those who own the MGM likely won't have to double-dip. It's be nice for the transfer to receive a true 4K remaster and an UHD release. It also could use a new, extended making-of doc containing recent interviews with Sonnenfeld and his actors. RECOMMENDED with caveats.

Hot off his turn in Pulp Fiction, John Travolta hams it up in this Hollywood satire of sorts playing a mob muscle man bullying his way into the movie business. Along for the ride are Rene Russo, Gene Hackman, Delroy Lindo and many other great character actors. Based on the book by Elmore Leonard who gave us Jackie Brown Get Shorty is a very funny crime caper that never misses a beat. Shout Factory's Select line re-issues this title in a new 4K scan but the elements seem a bit soft. The movie was shot on film but so I'm not expecting brighter brights and darker darks, but the print does offer a general smoothness to it just a bit soft in exposure. Audio holds up in clarity as this is mostly dialog driven and the 5.1 DTS track is nice. All the MGM disc special features are here and no new supplements created for this release. Bottom line, Get Shorty is now a classic satire with a great cast. It's just a shame its sequel Be Cool wasn't such.....

Get Shorty properly skewers Hollywood by drawing connections to how the business operates and the mob, and idea sold by great performances.

I found so much passion and emotion in this movie when I watched it using boxxy software and I wanna say WOW. The movies from moods are awesome!
