New York, 1922, the Jazz Age — where the callow Nick Carraway (Maguire), wannabe writer, recalls the tale of super-rich playboy Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) and his tragic passion for the married Daisy Buchanan (Mulligan), a story that captures a decadent era in all its glory and ruin.

Film: OK. Felt a bit too much like an afternoon soap for my tastes, but I have never read the book. 3D: Jaw dropping! This is what shooting in native 3d is all about. The visuals are truly mesmerizing. It's like 7 layered red velvet cake for the eyes for 2 hours. PQ: Spectacular! It looked incredible on my 180" screen courtesy of the BenQ 1085st projector with Darbee processing. AQ: Excellent for a 5.1 mix. This film truly deserved 7.1 and probably had it in theatres. Bottom Line: It's easily worth a blind buy for fans of the film and those who appreciate awesome 3d. Everyone else should rent it first.

I couldn't say this adaptation is not true to it's source material. (Which I absolutely love.) The plot is the same, really, everything is probably the same, yet somehow it failed to capture the spirit and the meaning behind the story. I would rather recommend the 2013 adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

I personally didn't like the movie, but it does have great 3d depth but no pop out 3d.

I was a skeptic, but this film won me over. If you know the novel, you'll be surprised at how closely it follows the book, down to using some of the poignant and poetic sentences word for word. One of my very favorite films of 2013.
