Steve McBadass

This is a cop movie for cops. It is gripping, it is action packed but above all else it is honest. Steve McQueen as Detective Bullitt is one of the greatest screen personas ever lifted off a real life cop. The car chases through San Fransisco are legendary, and the foot chases on an airport tarmac suspenseful. This movie exudes cool. Don't even get me started on the special features, it has some of the greatest documentaries on a Blu-ray I have seen yet. I think I have watched the Steve McQueen documentary about four times already, just amazing. Like cars? Like chases? Like mystery and suspense? The you will like Bullitt, no question.

"YOU'RE A WALKING SEWER FRANK. DAY AFTER DAY!"

Classic 60's police drama with one of the best car chases in movie history. Steve McQueen was great at being a baddass without having to say too much. He could just look at you with a blank stare and rip you to shreads. Much like the Dirty Harry movies the director does a great job of using San Francisco's locations as a back drop to enhance the story and that car chase through those steep hills through the city is vintage stuff! The transfer looks decent enough for a 1968 film but sadly the audio is NOT lossless but still comes in pretty clear for the dialogue Still recommended because of the late great McQueen and seeing one of the best car chases ever filmed

The Essence of Cool...........................

Steve McQueen was an icon of cinema. His roles spoke for themselves and when it came to realizm in some of those films, he got the job done. Bullitt is his signature role if not only because at the time (1968) the car chase sequence was an unknown film factor, the movie was on the edge, but cool again for audiences in 1968. In 2009 Bullitt seems like a silent movie and the action is no more then the ten minute car chase scene. Warner Bros presentation is also unimpressive in the PQ department. AQ is also nothing to brag about. Nontheless it's nice to have this classic on blu, but it could have looked and sounded better.

Bullitt (1968)

Oil is on its way out, and with the recent restructuring of GM, the auto industry may never relive another halcyon era like the one that produced Bullitt 's sleek Ford Mustang. So get started on your oil-punk graphic novel masterpiece before someone else beats you to it, and loop Bullitt 's chase scene in the background for appropriate atmosphere. It's not the tightest thriller of its decade, and it won't ever be featured in Masterplots , but just as Blow- Up , Michelangelo Antonioni's mod classic, is a time capsule of London's swinging sixties, Bullitt is an iconic representation of classic American muscle, both in its sinewy automobiles and the aloof charisma of Steve McQueen, its sex-symbol star.
