NHL 16 voor Xbox One wordt geprezen om de terugkeer van populaire spelmodi zoals EASHL en Be a Pro, en de gameplay is merkbaar verbeterd ten opzichte van zijn voorganger. De presentatie is zeer realistisch, met authentieke sfeer en geluiden die lijken op een echte tv-uitzending. Zowel nieuwe als ervaren spelers vinden het spel toegankelijk. Er zijn echter nadelen: online modi kampen regelmatig met verbindingsproblemen, en de AI maakt soms onlogische keuzes. Niet alle geliefde functies uit oudere versies zijn terug, en gesimuleerde wedstrijden leveren vaak onrealistisch hoge scores op. Over het algemeen is NHL 16 een grote stap vooruit, maar niet zonder gebreken.

My favorite hockey game since Sega 94. Countless features to personalize each game. Easy to customize in every mode I played. Online play was smooth.
