NHL 17 biedt een breed scala aan spelmodi en diepgaande aanpassingsopties, waardoor het aantrekkelijk is voor zowel nieuwe als ervaren spelers. De gameplay is vloeiend en de verbeterde AI van de goalies zorgt voor een realistische uitdaging. De presentatie en sfeer zijn zeer authentiek, wat bijdraagt aan de beleving. Toch zijn er minpunten: veel elementen zijn vergelijkbaar met de vorige editie, en het passen van de puck kan soms frustreren. Sommige modi voelen bovendien weinig vernieuwend aan. Over het algemeen is NHL 17 een sterke, maar niet revolutionaire ijshockeygame.

Bug riddled waste of money. Since this is all there is for NHL hockey.... Thanks NHL for that.. we love exclusive deals.... Seriously unless you want to hear your kids, significant other or yourself yell and scream at the bugs that are a serious issue here I wouldn't purchase this. It really is a shame. I bought a special edition from target on sale for $30 and feel like taking it back. Lesson learned... No more EA games. The annoying part is EA doesn't even acknowledge these bugs.

After the barebones release of NHL 15, the notable improvements of last year’s really stood out. Unfortunately for NHL 17, the additions it has made do not feel imperative to improving the overall experience. The gameplay is great and there is substantial depth in a lot of its modes but the game just feels like it needs something else to really distinguish itself from last year’s release. If you’re new to the hockey scene then NHL 17 is for you, however, those familiar with the series may be left wanting more. The PS4 version of this game was primarily tested for the purpose of this review.

Few games execute as well within their actual play as NHL, and that continues with in the newest installment. There's a lack of girth around the main game, with Draft Champions and Franchise Mode feeling like copies from previous EA Sports games. But at the same time, the on-ice play has never been better, the on-ice trainer is improved further and adding in net battles was a smart move. While it disappoints slightly, NHL 17 is still a must-play for hockey fans. — Jay Malone
