Final Fantasy IV Pixel Remaster delivers a timeless RPG experience with a deeply emotional narrative about Cecil's journey from dark knight to hero. The game pioneered the Active Time Battle system, creating real-time tension in combat that remains engaging today. Visually, it's a significant leap forward with beautifully updated pixel art and a rearranged soundtrack. The story masterfully weaves gameplay mechanics into character development, making sacrifices and struggles feel meaningful. However, potential buyers should know the final boss is frustratingly difficult compared to the rest of the game, requiring 5+ hours of grinding after 15 hours of balanced progression. Combat can feel repetitive as most character abilities lack utility, pushing players toward simple attack-and-heal strategies. The ATB system's spell delays and aggressive boss AI sometimes undermine tactical planning. Despite these issues, the game remains a landmark RPG with strong pacing, memorable characters, and quality-of-life improvements like toggleable random encounters and adjustable experience multipliers.

This is a decent game but it's not a great remake. The graphics are sluggish even on the newer model 3DS with upgraded specs so the game slows down and is choppy far too often. I can't imagine how bad it would be on a regular DS. I remember really loving the GBA version but I feel let down by this one. They tweaked the difficulty somewhat. It seems as though the random encounter enemies are easier, but the boss battles are far harder, leading to some frustration and long grind sessions early on. In a game that might be one of the shortest in the Final Fantasy series, it's really not as enjoyable as previous incarnations of FFIV. A much better Final Fantasy remake is the DS version of FFIII, which is itself a better game overall, in my opinion.

Reliving my childhood with more updates graphics. Arguably the very best ff ever. The fights are nearly impossible sometimes so make sure you save more frequently but otherwise great game and arrived right away

Just as wonderful this time around, pure nostalgia! Some changes for the good, but as great as I remember!

Worth what you pay for it. Not great, but for the price, certainly a good deal.
