Shenmue III is vooral een aanrader voor fans van de originele games, omdat het trouw blijft aan de klassieke formule met veel zijactiviteiten en een gedetailleerde wereld. Nieuwkomers kunnen echter moeite hebben met de gedateerde gameplay, matige stemacteurs en het trage verhaal. De game ziet er mooi uit, maar technisch zijn er wel wat minpunten. Kortom: een must voor liefhebbers, maar minder geschikt voor wie moderne open-world games gewend is.

There's something very zen-like about playing Shenmue III. I love going from one location to another to talk to different people. There isn't too much fighting required, but if you want to go deep into the fight system that depth is available. The voice acting is really something all of its own.

The game very much feels like a "Yakuza" game while still keeping its own identity. Combat is a lot more fast paced with a lot of crazy "EX Actions" and combos. Pretty thrilling story and a whole cast of very likeable characters. A great title overall and quite deserving of its upcoming sequel.
