Wow. I haven’t enjoyed a game as much as I am enjoying Tales of Hearts R in a long, long time. It has all of the classic elements of RPG gaming that the genre’s fans love, and an incredible battle system that stands high as a possible industry standard. The story is more than passable and the world is a large one, rife with discovery and exploration. There is nothing to not like about Tales of Hearts R, so I didn’t want to complicate the matter by rating it “appropriately” due to its being like so many games from before. This game is absolutely great, and everyone who loves RPG games should play it, without hesitancy. I hope that young gamers find this game at their local retailer and take a chance on it. Everyone should have the pleasure of enjoying this game. Without a doubt, this game deserves to be recognized for what it is: an absolute masterpiece. — Patrick Rost

I have imported and played both Tales of Innocence R and Tales of Hearts R and I have to say this game is fantastic. The game uses a much improved version of the battle system in Tales of Innocence R. The ability to teleport in battle at times also makes for a really fresh and enjoyable battle style. The 3D in the game takes what is a 2D environment and makes it into a highly improved 3D environment and even gives the game a full world map.

Tales of Hearts for the DS was one of the finest games in the series. Mostly using 2D sprites, the battle system was a fun throwback to the classic 2D styled Tales games with an advanced take on the battle system from the Tales of Destiny Remake styled games. This remake for Vita completely ruins of all of that. Apart from losing the charm of the graphics from the 2D version, the battle system seems to have been pulled directly from Tales of Innocence R and in the process loses everything that made the original version so good. With a fan translation for the original on the way, steer well clear of this abomination.

Tales of Hearts was allways a faviroute of mine within the ds. Being able to play it on ps vita with full 3d graphics was a god send! The battle system was really nice from the freedom of movement within the battle system to the nice transition between battle and over world was wonderful!
