Mario & Sonic op de Olympische Spelen: Tokyo 2020 biedt een grote variatie aan minigames en is ideaal voor families en groepen dankzij de toegankelijke besturing en kleurrijke presentatie. De multiplayeropties zijn uitgebreid, zowel lokaal als online. De verhaalmodus wordt echter vaak als saai en traag ervaren, met veel nietszeggende dialogen. Sommige sporten missen diepgang en de muziek is weinig opvallend. Voor solo spelers is de herspeelbaarheid beperkt, maar voor wie graag samen speelt, is het een vrolijke en goed uitgevoerde partygame.

I like Mario games, and I also like Sonic games, I even like a couple of the Olympic ones, but this was just about the worst story mode of a game I've ever played. The dialog was boring and unskippable, the story itself was bland all the way till the end, and almost nothing interesting happened the whole game. Playing the mini games on their own is fun, but the story is the most boring story I have ever played in a video game. You dont even get to chose who you play as for both the sports and running around, which really took the fun out of it even more. Fun game for short mini games, but that is it.

Lekker spelletje met twee verschillende, hedendaagse sterren. Naast Mario is ook Sonic van de partij. En dat op de Olympische Spelen. Heerlijk.
