Neo: The World Ends With You is een waardig vervolg op het origineel, maar temper je verwachtingen wel iets. Met soepele gameplay en een interessant verhaal zit je als ontwikkelaar al gauw in de goede richting. Het pinsysteem is leuk uitgewerkt en ook is het Shibuya-district gewoon leuk om te verkennen. De levenloze mensen in de stad en het feit dat de camera niet bewogen kan worden zorgen voor wat punten aftrek, maar dat maakt Neo nog steeds tot een erg goede game.

Combat eventually opens up to become chaotically fun and the series' sense of style is as fresh as ever, but the story leaves a lot to be desired. Beyond spotty pacing at times, the script lacks the strong character focus that defined the original. There's too much focus on world building and epic plotting instead of the intimacy that made TWEWY compelling to begin with. The fact that Final Remix 's A New Day epilogue plays such a foundational role in the narrative doesn't exactly help matters either. NEO: The World Ends with You has a frantic battle system that only gets better, but the story is sure to disappoint.

NEO: The World Ends With You PS4 Review – I couldn’t imagine the intimidation that comes from creating a sequel to a cult classic game like The World Ends With You. At the same time, there’s a ton of excitement behind it. With NEO: The World Ends With You, the small franchise breaks into the 3D space and that kind of change can make or break a niche franchise. Thankfully, Neo maintains the same kind of energy and style, even if it’s not quite the same as before.

The game is just a series of deus ex machina and none of it is set up in a way that would satisfy players who actively want to know more about this world and how it works.
