Shining Resonance Refrain biedt een solide actie-JRPG ervaring met een boeiende wereld en een unieke focus op muziek. De gevechten zijn dynamisch en de bandmechaniek voegt extra strategie toe. De Refrain-modus en extra content maken dit de meest complete versie. Wel is het verhaal vrij standaard en moet je vaak dezelfde gebieden bezoeken. Sommige baasgevechten zijn lastig en vereisen extra grinden. Ook zijn er technische problemen zoals framerate drops en muziekloopfouten. Het grote aantal skills en matige uitleg kan verwarrend zijn voor nieuwe spelers. Over het algemeen is het een aanrader voor JRPG-fans die houden van karakterontwikkeling en muzikale thema’s, maar minder geschikt voor wie een vernieuwend verhaal zoekt.

Shining Resonance Refrain is a remaster of the latest title in the Shining franchise. Never released outside of Japan, Shining Resonance released back on the PlayStation 3 and the remaster has finally got a western release. The question is: was it the wait worth it?

Shining Resonance Refrain is an entertaining adventure through a somewhat cliche story, but it contains its own unique aspects that keep you engaged. Combat is easy to learn, but there's a decent amount of depth to it. Dragonshift and B.A.N.D. sessions are wonderful combat mechanics that add more charm to the game. The relationship building and dating also adds a cute slice of life portion to the adventure. — Codi Spence
