Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition biedt een unieke open wereld ervaring in Hong Kong met een focus op martial arts gevechten in plaats van schietpartijen. Het vechtmechanisme wordt breed geprezen als vloeiend en bevredigend, vergelijkbaar met Batman Arkham-games. Het verhaal met Wei Shen als undercoveragent is meeslepend en goed gepaceerd, met een speeltijd van ongeveer 10 uur voor de hoofdverhaallijn. Echter, de definitive edition toont aanzienlijke technische problemen: constante framedrops, beperkte grafische verbeteringen ten opzichte van de PC-versie van twee jaar eerder, en een hoge prijs van $60. De rijmechanisme voelt stijf aan en camerabesturing kan frustrerend zijn. Alle DLC is inbegrepen, maar deze voegt weinig toe aan de hoofdervaring. Voor nieuwe spelers is dit een fantastische game om te ontdekken wanneer de prijs daalt, maar voor wie het al gespeeld heeft of een gaming-PC heeft, is deze remaster moeilijk te rechtvaardigen.

Worth every penny. As a middle-aged gamer who thinks GTA5 is a high point of 21st century popular culture, Sleeping Dogs is a close second to Rockstars masterpiece. Strong characterisation, a solid script, excellent action sequences and a great map of Hong Kong make for a superb experience. Highly recommended.

Deeply flawed given the time SE had to iron out glitches and old-school problems. The driving mechanics are awful, with the camera constantly swinging into the wrong position, and very little finesse available. The game crashes far too often. The narrative is odd, and it is difficult to know whether to empathise with some of the characters and Wei or just accept them as Nico like crims even when they are 'cops'. It is GTA-lite with none of the endearing apsects. I got sick to death of re-loading back at my safe house and then having to get all the way across the map again to do a task. You would have thought being able to jump from safe house to save house would be an option and it isn't (unless I am missing something). The fighting is irritiating and although I manage most fights in the end, the timing of certain button combos seems overly sensitive and despite my dojo training I ended up resorting to mashing the buttons or looking for a gun! All in all an irritating experience.
