Raiden IV x MIKADO Remix

Ahhh Raiden, the game that never changes. In any other realm that would be a diss, but for Raiden it's the supreme compliment. Accessible to all but tough as nails, this is what drew me to those arcade machines all those years ago. Even today this incarnation constantly has me saying "one more run, one more run", to me that's the mark of a great arcade game. The music is weaker than previous titles but that's no biggie. My biggest gripe is that the visual options/settings suck. I'm giving this 4 stars because Raiden Fighters Aces is a better game with better options and it simply shouldn't be. Oh, and the fact that they're actually trying to charge me for different colored planes as DLC when old school Raiden games had over 10 distinct choices of ships from the jump - tsk, tsk! This is still a great title if you're a shooter fan, though. Raiden IV is old school arcade action at it's purest, take it or leave it.

This game is very challenging even on NORMAL difficulty, but it does have more options to make the game more accesible. What a ride...the graphics, the music, the multi form bosses and all the bullets raining on your ship. Gaming bliss. Needless to say, you better get your shmup senses on a Zen state, as this game will definitely try you. Only drawback for me was the few ships available. You got the Raiden Mark II as your default ship and you can purchase two more at the Marketplace (the blue ship which I forgot the name and the Fairy). Compared to Raiden Fighting Aces, its nothing. It would've been great to see ships like the Endeavor or the Blue Javelin and their weaponry in full HD graphics. Anyways...other than the lack of ships to select from, this game is a blast. Keep your eyes on the ship thoughm because you will get shot at a lot!! Raiden IV is quite challenging, but DAMN it feels good to watch as the bosses crumble and explode in a fiery hell before your eyes.

Turns out it was the limited edition, which includes a soundtrack CD. Nice bonus. The newegg listing doesn't mention that. I really could use a vertical monitor for these games...

Bought this because it was on sale, and remembered how fun it was in the arcade. The game does a pretty good job of staying true to the original, but with better graphics. If you like the arcade version, can't see why you wouldn't like this one. Best part about it is, it won't cost you a million quarters to win now!
