If you get only one pedal when you are starting out, especially if you practice with headphones, get this one. It will give you basic tube amp sounds without an amp, and more realistic tones than a headphone amplifier alone. And a DI for when you eventually get onstage. And it's cheap!

Build quality aside, this thing sounds great. Don't mistreat it like you would a steel stompbox and you've got an amazing sounding pedal!

…so no real complaints. The issue I have is that the battery compartment doesn't latch properly so you always have to be very careful with it or the battery drops out. That's a pain in the behind.

This is definitely a must-have. At its core, it's a great DI with a ground loop. Switch it on and it's got a flexible 2-band EQ and some nice tonal extras. Drive gives a bit of tube heaviness, Presence gets some upper-partial air that helps with sitting in a dense recording mix. Even if you have a pricey DI, get this lil' workhorse and keep it in your gigbag. Chances are it will quickly become a favored piece of go-to gear. And don't let the plastic housing give you pause- this is thick strong plastic that would need serious determined hard stomping (not average use) to do any damage. My guess is that Behringer shaves off considerable $$ by using this for their pedals. So be it- not a deal breaker. It's robust. The insides are well worth the crazy price.

Yes, it's Behringer! Yes, it's $! But it does exactly what it's supposed to do. A bass player came to my studio and brought over a comparable pedal that literally costs 10X as much. I noted that it sounded better that the tone I was getting just running direct into a DI box, which got me shopping for what he had. I stumbled across a YouTube video doing a side-by-side comparison between this BDI21 and the pedal he'd brought over, and I was amazed at how similar they sounded, and in some cases, how much thicker this Behringer pedal sounded. So I forked over the $, and I've been nothing but PLEASED! Yes, you could buy something else for $300, BUT WHY?!
