This is the best LEGO Carousel yet (there are four, by my count), and one of my favorite sets of all time. The mechanics are very smooth and reliable. The build is very enjoyable, and the final product... well, it makes me happy like a kid on Christmas morning. I haven't hooked up power functions because I'm still having so much fun turning it myself. Each animal is just fantastic. (That frog!)

This is a very beautiful set to display in any home! The only issue we had with this was that, on a shelf, the interior of the carousel does not get enough light to bring out the characters and animals. We added a string of small LEDs, which really made the ride stand out! Underneath the cloth top, its easy to fit a small battery pack and string lights without affecting the look or operation of the set, and adds a great look and feel. During the build, the only small challenge was getting the top in place (my daughter helped with this...small hands are great for it!). Playing with the set is great, and it has the same unique feel as a real carousel.

Major Maniac here reviewing the Lego Carousel. I wasn't going to buy this set until Lego came out with the Roller Coaster. That set swayed me, so here I am. Plain and simple, this is a great set. You get lots of mini figs, it can easily be motorized, there's lots of character and great playability. I love how my daughters' faces lit up when I turned the motor on and let them play. I really don't have any cons other than the price. It is expensive, but it has a lot of detail, is well structured, and I built it in about five or six hours. Overall, really a great set.

I bought the carousel for my wife as mother’s day gift. I helped her with building it but during the process of placing the roof, the base started falling off. The base is made of smaller lego pieces instead of a bigger one that we normally use in modular. Very frustrating because once the mechanics inside the carousel rotor breaks, you have to tear up a lot of pieces to get into it. In my opinion, it is not well thought design. Thanks!

This set looks tremendous when complete, but the function is hindered by the fact that no matter how hard I tried to maintain good spacing with my gears and axles there was still a lot of friction in the completed model and it requires lots of force to turn the carousel. This also puts a noticeable amount of strain on the motor when connected. In addition to this, the animals often shudder as they move. Overall a great look when stationary but doesn't function as well as I was hoping.
