Manfrotto MT055CXPRO4 Tripod - Carbon

Not cheap but not in the premium price range either and very good value for the price. It is reassuringly solid, moderately easy to adjust and provides a very firm base fo my fairly heavy camera. Almost exactly what I was looking for. The same sturdiness with less weight would have been perfect; and I would have iked a carry bag with it.

This is a great tripod. It had everything I wanted. Short enough to fit in my checked luggage, light enough to carry around, tall enough for me (6ft tall+). Only, the second time I pulled the center column up, the plastic rotator collar snapped. It still works, but it is hard to put back to the vertical position. I would have returned this tripod to BH, but it looked like a part that could be replaced fairly easily, so I tried going through Manfrotto warranty support. I've sent two emails through their website in the last week with no response back yet. I'm hoping someone there might see this. I'm ready to just return it and go with Three legged Thing. I have one of those and when I had an issue with the ballhead, immediate response and bonus upgrade because my ballhead was discontinued.

Very nice tripod. It's a nice upgrade from the aluminum one that I've been using. Nice new features like the bubble level and the ability to slide the center column to the side for macro work.

Combined this with this Manfrotto head – MHXPRO-BHQ2 XPRO Ball Head ... Excellent combination. This is my first "Carbon-Fiber" tripod so I can't speak to its weight but it feels lightweight and the whole system is very well built. Smooth operation during leg extensions and knob adjustments. Like how the base comes with a bubble-level (so along with the above mentioned head, that's three level units overall). My ONLY pet peeve for now is that it doesn't come with a case or protective cover. For a $500 tripod, I mean c'mon, they include a nice carry case with the Befree model (half the price).
