Front toe area is very tight compared to all the other hoka hiking boots and shoes I have. Need to return for larger size. Other than that they feel rugged and comfortable

I have no doubt these are great, comfortable shoes. However, Hoka shoes tend to be quite chunky with very large, padded soles & heels. This adds to comfort of course, and can be desirable. But, traveling with these shoes in luggage or a backpack is difficult. I returned this pair due to a size mismatch, but in the process I decided to explore other more packable options for travel from other companies - Altra, Salomon, etc.
I have no doubt these are great, comfortable shoes. However, Hoka shoes tend to be quite chunky with very large, padded soles & heels. This adds to comfort of course, and can be desirable. The shoes have some appealing attributes - quality materials, sturdy and supportive heel counter, and sturdy outer sole to protect from rocks, etc. But, as is the case with a lot of Hoka models, the forefoot is narrow and toe box tapered along the outside causing rubbing of the 5th toe (and my foot is very average in width). Despite high hopes the shoes were returned.

Great shoe, but I think they run a size small. I read many reviews before buying these shoes. I normally I wear a size 9.5 US, but for hiking I go with a size 10. Which is what I first ordered, but as soon as I put them on I could tell that I needed to go up to a size 10.5. I guess I should have gone up to a size 11. I won’t be using these as hiking shoes, but that is why I bought them for. As we all know coming downhill if your toe touches the rock guard then your going to be losing a toenail. Everyone loves these and I really think they would be great for hiking, if they just fit me correctly.

The Kaha 3 has been totally redesigned from Kaha 2 and as others have said the shoe is much narrower and shorter due to extra padding in back collar of shoes. I have had 4 pairs of prior versions and don’t know why Hoka had to mess up a perfectly good fitting hiking boot. I would give it zero stars if I could.
