Does NOT FIT the Nikkor 50mm F1.8 D lens, it is far too big, the D version of the 50mm lens just falls straight through this lens hood, think it is made for the ‘G’ version of the 50mm lens, check before ordering, ended up going for an all metal 3rd party lens hood for my 50mm F1.8 D lens that fits perfectly.

Nikon's pricing is ridiculous (thus the subtraction of a star), BUT it snaps on and stays on reliably. Previously I was seduced by the savings to try two hoods (including this one) from the other brand B&H sells. One was too tight and cracked when attempting to put it on the lens, and the other was too loose and frequently fell off. The Nikon branded hoods consistently fit perfectly.

I purchased this after having a tripod fail on me and fall with the camera on it. The old Hood shattered into several pieces but protected the camera and the lens. A small price to replace the hood compared to the lens! Fits perfectly and works just as good as the one that came with the lens. This isn't the best hood, and honestly I looked for an aftermarket one with a different shape because I'm not impressed with this one and it's lack of lens flare reduction. However it functions just as the original and I wouldn't even think of shooting without it.
