SilverStone SG12

Here at Bjorn3D we are no strangers to the SilverStone brand. They have been creating awesome cases, power supplies, coolers and more since 2003, and we have been fortunate enough to take a look at many of their offerings over the years. Early on in their history, they created the Sugo series of cases, a line which caters to those that wish to build a small form factor PC. The latest case in the Sugo series is the SG12, a compact, yet roomy, SFF case. With room for large video cards, as well as ATX power supplies, the Silverstone SG12 looks to be a great contender in the growing SFF arena. Does the SG12 meet the needs of a compact, yet powerful, rig? You’ll have to continue to find out.

Nice, compact case

The "Wraith Spire" stock cooler that comes with AMD Ryzen 1700 CPUs at the time of writing just barely fits underneath the power supply, although it will be less efficient than a side-blowing fan or (better still) an aftermarket cooler like the "NT06-PRO" Silverstone recommends for these cases that has an easily reversible fan (so you can point it up, towards the PSU). Unlike the only other reviewer at the time of writing, I received a generous supply of screws with my case (but no PC-speaker-on-a-pigtail, you may wish to purchase one separately).

Good case if you plan ahead

The case is good, very sturdy and looks nice on a desk. It is coincidentally about the right height to sit my Surface Pro on and have it in line with my monitors, which is nice. I used the case with an NH-L9x65 CPU cooler and I did have to flip the fan for optimal airflow. It fit my triple slot graphics card though which was good. I used a full modular power supply of 180mm and an optical drive, and I could route the cables fairly neatly, though the hard drives are quite hard to access as a bit of the room in front of them is used for cable routing. I added some rubber washers to the hard drives and that has reduced noise significantly, the included SilverStone fan is fairly quiet. It's a bit expensive just to get the aluminium front, but the handle will be useful too. I just wish that they made some effort to sound damped HDDs so I wouldn't need to, but it's not the end of the world.
