De Zhiyun Smooth Q3 is een betaalbare 3-assige smartphonegimbal die vooral opvalt door zijn lichte, inklapbare ontwerp en de ingebouwde 180° draaibare vullamp met drie helderheidsniveaus. Veel gebruikers en testers klagen bovendien over de ZY Cami app, die bugs, verbindingsproblemen en een matige interface kan hebben. Ook wordt gemeld dat de motoren soms gevoelig reageren, bijvoorbeeld door te ‘floppen’ bij zwaardere telefoons of lenzen, en dat de zoomslider niet heel soepel of precies werkt. Zhiyun Smooth-Q3 Combo stabilization is really smooth and its build quality feels premium for a mid-range model. Fill Light is a neat addition, especially if you shoot in low light. Battery life is good, usually getting me through a full day of shooting.

With all these things in mind, should you purchase the Smooth Q3? If you’re after a lightweight, budget-friendly gimbal that can go with you then the Smooth Q3 is an excellent choice. However, bugs, frustrations, and some restrictions with the Smooth Q3 need to be weighed against the various improvements made. Many of these stem from optional ZY Cami app implementations, so you can opt out of those if desired. Overall, it depends on how much you value its usability improvements and the benefit of an adjustable light source for your shots. Still, for many, the Smooth Q3 will offer an enticing, accessible package, albeit not a perfect one.
