Overall, In the Line of Fire does not take too many steps off the typical thriller path, but in spite of that, it does it very well. John Malkovich is fantastic as the bad guy and really gives you the chills. He has the right amount of hurt and insanity for the character he played and did it phenomenally. Clint Eastwood, though a little old, is very good as well. The story is intense and Wolfgang Petersen does a great job creating a ton of tension. The pace is brisk and I liked the focus on dialogue, rather than a focus on action shootouts like in many thrillers. I think the love interest element was unnecessary and just tossed in there, as it added really nothing to the film, honestly. As a whole, In the Line of Fire is a good, intense thriller that works from every angle and though formulaic, it is a great example of using a formula very successfully.

This Wolfgang Peterson picture is full of amazing compelling elements, John Malkovich puts on one of his most underrated performances, and Clint Eastwood is at his best as Frank Horrigan.

This is another good Clint Eastwood movie as he plays a secret service agent. It's a great story between Clint's character and John Malkovich as the assassin trying to kill the president. Mixed in is a little bit of a love story. The video and audio quality is good but shows its age for a 20 year old film. As for extras you get a commentary and a hair over an hour of extra content. One complaint is the movie does not go to the menu at the start. It starts with previews and is hard to get to the menu having to keep hitting the next chapter button.

For a film that's 17 years old, the PQ and AQ is excellent - particularly the sound really nice and sharp. In regards to the movie itself , I reckon Clint gave one of his best ever performances (up there with Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby IMHO). showing an emotional depth he's not usually associated with, especially within the confines of a thriller. The cat and mouse dialogue scenes bewteen the 2 main characters are quite riveting and really add to the tension of the film. Highly recommended.

One of Clint's absolute best. Saw this movie the week it opened up,and have been a fan of it ever since. PQ-This movie has a top notch transfer. Scenes range from 3.0-4.5. So I felt rating this a 4.0 was justifiable! Close up shots look great. Especially scenes that happen in the daylight. Very little to no grain,so that makes this a plus in my book. Very happy with this transfer. AQ-Audio was fairly consistent throughout. Though of course,this movie wasn't made to give your sound system a work out. Overall-I'm very happy with this release. Sony gave a top notch transfer on this one. Buy this if you're a fan of this flick!
