The more I revisit Funny Games , the more I dislike it. In fact, I can comfortably state now that I consider it Michael Haneke's most intellectually dishonest work. I used to focus on its style and it is the reason why I was able to tolerate its ugliness, but this has changed because over the years its button-pushing became too transparent. Criterion's recent release is sourced from a 2K remaster that was supervised by director Haneke, but I think that the presentation could have been even better.

Funny Games is as suspenseful as it is divisive, a tightly wound picture that gleefully toys with audience expectations. Criterion has done a great job bringing it to Blu-ray, presenting it in a beautiful transfer with fine lossless audio and a nice collection of supplements that document the film's history and explore its themes and style. Highly recommended.

I find it funny that the original and this shot for shot remake with better actors had such different reception, both are terrific dark comedies with the same exact everything, and yet, the lesser minded often dismiss this great piece of cinema as pointless garbage, these people should stop watching movies.This is easily the best dark comedy of all time, an imaginative look at the philosophy of chaos.

Impossible to like but easy to admire for its craft and extraordinary cast. Funny Games is uncomfortable and you'll probably hate it. Watts is superb though.
