DJI Mic 3

I upgraded to the DJI Mic 3 from the Rode Wireless Go II. I bought 2 Rode Lavalier mics as well. Unfortunately the Rode transmitter battery died. This was surprising as I had only used the mics a few of times. These DJI mics are superior in every way. They are smaller, lighter, and the batteries last a lot longer. They come with tiny powerful magnetic clips and everything fits into the one small charging case. The display is easy to use to make config changes, and they work seamlessly with my DJI drones, my iPhone, and my Z9 and Z8. The mics are so small you don’t need to use the expensive lavalier mics.

I was using the Rode Wireless Go II until the battery died in the transmitter. I expected better from Rode, as I had only used the mics a couple of times. This DJI Mic 3 is better in every way. They are smaller, lighter, and have powerful magnetic clips. Their small size prevents the need for using lavalier mics which is great. The display and menus are easy to use. They connect seamlessly to my DJI drones. So far I am very impressed.

I wanted to love the DJI Mic 3, but the experience was frustrating. One transmitter (TX1) worked great with clear audio. However, the second transmitter (TX2) was faulty, with weaker input sensitivity despite identical conditions. The biggest issue, though, is the DJI Mimo app. It doesn’t properly support recording through the USB-C receiver when connected to an iPhone. The app loops between “Set Mic” and “Go to Settings,” pushing Bluetooth pairing rather than recognizing the USB-C receiver. To get the app and devices working as intended, you must first connect a DJI Osmo handheld gimbal camera, then plug in the USB-C mic receiver afterward. Only at that point do the app and devices work correctly. In short, great hardware, good potential, but a frustrating, convoluted app workflow. I expected better integration from a premium product.

I bought the dji mic 3's to go with my dji osmo mobile 8 and my 5 dji drones. I have to say, they are absolutely fantastic. The noise cancelling is superb, and the fact that you can also use them to start/stop recording when connect to the osmo mobile 8's module is a great plus. I recommend the dji mic 3's.

For what it costs and what it delivers, the DJI Mic Mini 3 stands out as a strong value option.
