Asus ProArt PA27JCV

The ASUS ProArt PA27JCV is very good for editing. It's quite accurate before calibration and displays a wide range of colors. Its 5k resolution also delivers detailed images. However, it has considerable backlight bleed, and deep blacks look uneven in a dark room. It's also not ideal for editing HDR content, as highlights don't pop, and its HDR colors aren't very vivid.

The PA27JCV is a competitively-priced screen that delivers an excellent experience for viewing both stills images and movies. It’s bright and colourful with deep, rich blacks and sparkling whites. Its ability to display detail is impressive. It provides sufficient flexibility for content creators of all types and at all levels. We found the factory calibration required little or no tweaking before use. For these reasons we’ve awarded the PA27JCV an Editor’s Choice rating and can recommend it to anyone who wants an enjoyable screen for everyday use at a price that won’t put too big a dent in the budget.

Wacht met aanschaf tot er firmware-updates zijn (MCM101 is launch firmware). Het stroomverbruik is in standby met een MacBook 20 watt, zelfs in energiebesparingsmodus, en dat is niet altijd consistent. Soms daalt het verbruik naar 1,5 watt, maar het scherm blijft dit soms ook verbruiken als de MacBook is losgekoppeld. Het 'wake up'-gedrag is onvoorspelbaar; soms is de aan/uit-knop nodig terwijl je laptop wel uit standby komt. Gebruik je de USB-hub zonder energiebesparingmodus, dan ligt het standby-verbruik op 10 watt. Je bent min of meer verplicht energiebesparing in te schakelen, waardoor je via toetsenbord en muis je laptop niet via USB uit standby kunt halen. Backlight bleed is merkbaar, maar dit is typisch voor IPS-schermen en valt tijdens kantoorwerk nauwelijks op. Edit: inmiddels vervangen door een 4K scherm. En dat ziet er geschaald naar 256 x 1440 uitstekend uit op MacOS.

Slechte kijkhoek die een gele waas veroorzaakt al gelijk zodra je niet direct recht voor het scherm zit. De coating van het scherm is van lage kwaliteit. Veel backlight bleeding van onacceptabel niveau. De bouwkwaliteit is daardoor naar mijn mening ondermaats. Het lijkt wel alsof ze afgedankte panelen gebruiken. Op Reddit heb ik meer posts gezien van mensen die onacceptabel veel backlight bleeding hebben, waarvan sommige zelfs meer dan de helft van het scherm betrof. Ik zou dit niet kopen.
